Pioneers of practicing eco-labels that recognize products produced in an environmentally responsible manner, the Rainforest Alliance set a new set of standards for growing bananas and coffee.

The hazards to the environment and farm workers from these crops include high levels of pesticides, sub- standard housing, unsafe drinking water, and tropical diseases. We support the Alliance’s uniting of environmentalists, government agencies, scientists and farmers to negotiate feasible compromises that bridge the gap between environmentally ideals and the practical realities of producing eco-friendly bananas and coffee. The Alliance provides special training, health care, and education, guidance, and technical support to growers and their families. As an incentive for them to meet the new ecological standards, successful growers win an “Eco-label” for their crops.
