Ramachen Primary School  is about 8 kilometers from the town of Phobjika. Located on gentle slope in the middle of the village of more than 300 households, the school provides two meals each day and a basic education.

“Ramey” means “grazing land” in local parlance and “chen” means “wide area” provided by the government for their cattle a few years back. The school was established in the year 2002 with only five teachers teaching from grades PP-III. The structures were built by the community themselves but the construction materials were provided by government.

To provide more than only a basic education, Grand Circle Foundation funded the purchase of 4 desktop computers and access to the internet. The families of the children who attend the school are poor and could not contribute financially to the project, but provided manual labor to set up the classroom for the computers. With an enrollment of 200 students ages 6 to 16, we will be adding more computers in the near future.
