Update from Morocco
On September 8th 2023 a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Morocco. With 2 groups of OAT travelers on the ground, our experienced regional team went into action. Travelers were safe and even helped purchase food, water and hygiene products to deliver to a local hospital with the funds wired from the foundation.
In the aftermath, donations poured in from OAT travelers and over time were used to provide funds to the Joint Distribution Committe, which provided 240 households to receive cooking utensils, blankets and children’s clothing, and a week’s supply of food, diapers and hygiene products.
We then partnered with a local organization , AWRIKT which identified families who’s homes had either been completely destroyed or needed repairs in Ouarzazate. Donated funds were used to help repair or construct homes for 10 families over the next 18 months
with 3 additonal homes currently under way.
Manal Sailane, the regional manager in Morocco, recently visited the area and sent us photos that your donations helped build and shared her thoughts…
“We also visited the village that we supported following the earthquake, where we had the opportunity to meet with locals of the village. They expressed deep gratitude for the support provided by GCF, and it was very moving to witness the positive impact on the community.”
