When science is fun – the outdoor playground at the Magic Land Center in Mongolia
Last year with the help of generous OAT travelers, GCF was able to refurbish classrooms inside the center so this year they asked us to help remodel the outdoor playground, with an emphasis on active learning.
Sound tubes
The sound tubes consists of 3 different tubes and 6 wooden stands. Part of the tubes installed underground. 6 children able to play at a same time. Suitable for children age 4 and above.
Big ears: collecting the sounds of surrounding environment
Big ears consists of two big cone shaped plates to collect sounds from surroundings. Suitable for children age 5 and above. The wooden stand installed well on the ground, collect sounds of North East and South West from the postion of 3.5m high. Labeled the tool with an explanation of how to play with it.
Wall ball maze
This tool is used to develop a basic physic science including gravity and balancing the weight by involving the concentration skill and hand mobility. 4 children able to play at a same time or play two by two. Labeled the game with an explanation of how to play.
Air Rocket
The air rocket has been made by the children who study in the wood workshop at the Magic Land Center with an instruction of professionals from the Dudu science team. During the installation process, children used recycled bottles to have the air rocket to fly. This game will be mainly used for children who attend an astronomy class. Table board had been made in two different heights, that allow children age 6 or above are able to play. A safety instruction has been labeled well.

It was most challenging to find a qualifed material to make a whisper dish. Two astrological antennas had been chosen to install finally. Each antenna has 2m of diameter. Labeled with an explanation of how to play.
Pulley System
This is the funniest game at the playground to understand a basic physic science. It helps children to learn how to save the strength by using a handle to pull up different weights, from the lightest to the heaviest. Labeled with an instruction to play and the formula of weight.
