As a thank you to his community for the support he’s received over the last year while unemployed, Daudi a lodge gardener, planted and harvests kale at the Tloma Primary school.

“Sukuma wiki” as it is known in Kiswhali is one of the most highly nutritious vegetables, containing Vitamins K, A, E and C along with manganese, magnesium and iron.  The kale is chopped finely and added to the maize porridge served at lunch.

The teachers and parents quickly noticed an improved attention span and burst of energy among all the children, with no “afternoon slump”.

From planting to harvest in only 4 weeks, this will become a staple introduced to the gardens at all GCF supported schools in Tanzania.
