Grand Circle Foundation and Travelers Donate $500,000 To Red Cross Relief Efforts In Haiti

Travelers Donate $350,000 Following Grand Circle Foundation's Pledge to Match

January 18, 2010 (Boston, MA)—Alan Lewis, Chairman of Grand Circle Corporation, which owns Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Travel, today reported that $500,000 has been raised by Grand Circle Foundation and travelers to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. Alan and his wife Harriet, Grand Circle's co-chair and chair of the Foundation, presented the $500,000 check today to Deborah C. Jackson, CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay.

Over an approximately 96-hour period that began January 14, Grand Circle and OAT travelers donated $350,000, on-line, to Grand Circle Foundation to support Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti. Travelers' quick and generous response came quickly after an email from Grand Circle Foundation invited travelers to donate to the Red Cross through the Foundation during a given time period to receive a 100% match. Travelers donated $150,000 during that time frame, which the Foundation has matched. More than 3,500 travelers in total have donated to-date.

"Our travelers consider themselves global citizens, and when the call comes for help, they will always respond," said Alan, whose travel companies serve some 115,000 Americans over 50 each year. "We have always believed that we serve America's greatest generation, and this recent outpouring from our travelers only confirms it."

The donation will support the Red Cross' efforts to provide Mass Care to survivors of the quake, including the provision of emergency water, food, clothing, and shelter.

Alan and Harriet Lewis established Grand Circle Foundation in 1992 as a way to give back to the countries through which Overseas Adventure Travel and Grand Circle Travel customers travel. Since then, the Foundation has pledged or donated $50 million worldwide to support the education of young people and the preservation of cultural treasures and traditions. Currently, the Foundation supports more than 80 schools and educational institutions serving youth in more than 60 countries.
